Charles Hodges is a Guidance Counselor and Head of GGE’s International Department. Since 2002, when he worked at the American School of Recife, he has counseled hundreds of students in Recife who dreamed of attending college or university abroad. He has a Bachelor’s in Psychology from the Federal University of Pernambuco, and a Master’s in Educational Leadership from Walden University
COLLEGE ABROAD
Specializing in international education, the Brazil World Group is focused on preparing young adults in Brazil for an international academic career, be it through academics, arts, or sports. Furthermore, the Group, which has sent students to such countries as the United States, Canada, Germany, England, France, Portugal, Ireland, Japan, and the UAE, offers a counseling program that helps students with everything from creating their educational profile to finding opportunities in the best institutions of higher education around the world.
At Colégio GGE, BWAcademic (a part of BW GRUPO) will develop a student profile and carry out an international project for each student in the program. The work includes analyzing students’ profiles and talents, and putting together a resume which includes their school transcript, their level of English proficiency, results on standardized and English proficiency tests, their talents, as well as an aspect that is less common in Brazil–their volunteer work done throughout high school.

The College Abroad Program consists of stages that depend on the student’s grade in school, beginning in 9th grade. The sooner GGE students begin their preparation, the stronger a foundation they’ll have in understanding what’s required to gain admittance into colleges and universities abroad. However, students can join the Program at any point, including during their senior year.
9th GRADE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS AND 1st YEAR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS
PRE-COUNSELING
Twice-a-month in-person sessions on basic concepts of the admissions process to institutions of higher education in the United States and around the world, including improving their English, keeping their grades up, costs, scholarships and financial aid, the higher education experience abroad, and many more.
- Meetings twice a month of 1 hour each
- Meetings with parents every semester
- Meetings are in English
2nd YEAR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS
TEST PREP
A preparatory course with weekly online classes to prepare students for four of the most common tests involved in this process: the SAT, the ACT, the TOEFL, and the IELTS. Students will learn strategies to answer different types of test questions, along with time management skills, how to sign up for each test, the best dates to take each test, and strategies for improving their English outside the classroom.

3nd YEAR GIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS AND PRÉ-ENEM
ACADEMIC COUNSELING
Personalized individual counseling, both online and in-person, about the application process to higher education institutions in the United States, Canada, Europe, and around the world. This includes choosing the institutions, filling out application forms, applying for financial aid, signing up for tests, assistance with essays, translation of recommendation letters (when necessary), enrollment, and more.

As a way to enhance students’ preparation and international experience, GGE’s International Department also offers students support when looking for Summer Programs. This includes counseling and choosing programs that take place during the mid-year vacation in the U.S. and around the world, allowing GGE high school students to get a taste of university life, studying subjects they’re interested in or, if necessary, English.
